My 3 month visit to the Doctor's

Today I went in for my 3 month check-up. I was a little nervous about whether they would hear the hearbeat, but Peg (my midwife) found it immediately! She said that she found it so quickly and the way it sounded, it virtually eliminated the chance for a miscarriage. That was great news!

And boy was Samantha full of questions:

Why do you have to wear that dress, Mommy? (the examination gown)
Because, Sammie they have to make sure Mommy is healthy.

What are they doing to your finger, Mommy? Sticking it, Sammie to get blood out of my body.

Does it hurt, Mommy? Just for a second, Sammie

What is that grown-up man doing in here, Mommy? Well, Sammie, he is a student learning how to be a Doctor; so he is watching our midwife.

What is this, Mommy? That's the changing room.

and on, and on, and on.....

What I like about the holidays

(This picture was taken by my mother-in-law out her front window just about a week ago)
With Thanksgiving next week, I quickly start to get in the holiday spirit.
And next week I'll be cooking the whole meal for Paul, Sammie and myself. Turkey, Stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn (for Paul), cauliflower and carrots with a homemade cheese sauce, cranberry sauce, creamed onions and celery with pimento; if some of the sides sound wierd, they are all family traditional fixin's and if you tried them, you would love them.

I would like to starve myself beforehand so I can shove more in at dinner, but I don't think the baby inside would enjoy that too much!
Then afterwards comes Christmas shopping! The past two years we have not been able to buy Christmas presents so this year I'm looking forward to buying a few things.
And I'm really hoping to be able to go to Canada this year for Christmas. Part of it is to let Sammie interact with her cousins and Aunts and Uncles, but I also haven't seen them in a couple years.

Pray that our business does tremendously well, so we will be able to go up there.

What are your favorite holiday things to do?

My visit with my sister

Well, today will be the day that I go out with my sister after not really spending any time with her for 8 months.
I am looking forward to getting a relationship back with her. She has such good qualities and I know we can get along, it just has to be done very delicately and in a certain way.

Please pray that everything will go smoothly and we can work out our problems.

Why is it that the older you get, the harder it is to get along with family?

Thanksgiving with the homeschoolers

These are the latest pictures from our homeschool group. There's Sammie on the very right. Then it's Katie, Daylin, Lydia, Haven, Levi and Evan.
Behind them is a makeshift tee-pee, since that week we were focusing on Thanksgiving (for all you Canadians ours is on the 23rd of Nov). We braided all the girls hair like Indians and talked about what life was like for them. Then we made a Thanksgiving feast with turkey rolls, my homemade Thomas Jefferson biscuits, corn on the cob, potatoes, and a fruit salad that the kids made. We had a ball! Then after eating we made a trek to the pasture and fed the two beautiful horses (one pure white and the other brown). I wanted to hop on one of those horses and just take off...I don't think the baby would've enjoyed that too much.

The last picture is of Sammie and Katie eating (let me rephrase that....not really eating) their Thanksgiving lunches. They were more interested in playing than eating.

Maybe

Maybe, it's because I'm pregnant;
maybe, it's because I'm bored;
maybe, it's because my life doesn't seem very exciting right now;
maybe, it's because all I ever seem to write about is Sammie;
maybe, it's because I made B's in high school on my essays;
maybe, it's because I haven't had the chance to go out on a date with Paul;
maybe, it's because my chin looks like the moon; (hormones suck)
maybe, it's because I haven't been on a long trip in over a year;
maybe, it's because I can't remember when was the last time I stayed up all night
talking to one of my girlfriends;
or maybe, it's because I have filled up my days with so much to do and I'm just so busy
(can you sense the sarcasm)

....That I just don't feel like I have much to write about.

But thanks, Lynne for noticing. I love ya.
PS-Did you (and Evan) get our message on your machine on Monday?

A New Perspective

Every once in a while, I find that something I thought was a truth, turned out to be not.

Like for instance, have you ever thought you knew someone; thought you had their personality pegged; only to find out that you actually were getting a slanted view?

That happens to me sometimes and it seems to always throw me for a loop. Then I start to question everything I know about the person. I start to wonder if judgments I have made in the past were actually correct or based on an off-kilter perspective.

I have not always been the one who can read another person, but sometimes I'm surprised at how naive I can be.
